So, we didn’t make it all the way to Whitehall, after the 400th how much farther in a 7 hour drive we pulled in to the Butte Montana KOA only to find out that Whitehall is a mere 22 minutes away. I am having trouble with the KOA free wireless…you can’t connect to it with a Mac. I guess they don’t think that cool Mac people are the type that camp. Grrr. The solution is to come to McDonald’s or find a library. McDonald’s has frenchfries and a playground so guess where I am posting from?
Montana is incrediable. I can’t find the words to describe it other than to tell you that at one point yesterday near Bearmouth we came through a mountain range and what lay before us brought tears to my eyes. The places I have lived have pretty restrictive landscapes, I have never experienced a horizon as BIG as the one in Montana. I felt my chest open up and my spirit grow. I could easily imagine feeling at home in a place like this.
This morning we are headed to Whitehall to see the Lewis and Clark Caverns.
It is one of the parts of the journey that we are most excited about. After that we are headed to Yellowstone to stay for 2
days. I am ever so grateful not to have to break camp tomorrow. I am getting a bit road weary and the kids need a car break. Yellowstone does not have any wireless hotspots so I will be over and out until the 8th.
I am still loving this trip in spike of the weariness, I don’t mind the driving at all and the kids are being reasonably well behaved. I am having trouble getting Fox to participate in the work part of setting up and breaking camp, he is what we would call in the HR world as non-compliant and disengaged. I have decided that success in this trip will be measured by the avoidance of contact with Child Protective Services so beating him in to submission is not an option. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

He is a prince though, funny and snuggley…just not willing to do anything with a tent pole other than to pretend that he is a knight and it is a jousting rod. <sigh> Imprisonment might be a solution.

Tell Fox every time he helps set up the tent he will get a extra ride around the block on Joe’s Harley or maybe even a drive on the big road on it if he is a really good help.. but i need a picture of him helping each time..

This looks sooooo exciting!!!! I am so proud of you, you are giving your kids memories they’ll cherish forever!!!
When I think of Montana 2 things come to mind:
1) The Movie “a river runs through it”
2) Breathtaking natural beauty
Continue to enjoy, and drive safe:)

Hey Jennifer!! We’ve been reading your posts faithfully. So cool to hear your coastal sensibilities being ‘wow’ed by the land sprawling between the oceans. Hats off to you my friend – for the things you all will learn about your world … and each other. Keep writing. Keep breathing. Keep livin, baby!
